Vadavada United win JT Super 9s women’s cup

DEFENDING JT Super Nines Cup women’s champions Vadavada United beat DS Crew 19-10 to seal back-to-back honours in the final of the annual rugby league tournament on Sunday.
It was clash of Papua New Guinea Orchids and Palais players from both sides that kept the huge crowd on their feet at Moresby South Stadium.
Island Mobile Hire Cars-sponsored United deserved the victory as they were the better side, finishing the tournament unbeaten.
They claimed the Cup and K5,000.
It was 15-10 at halftime.
United fullback Joanne Lagona was named the player of the match for her two-try effort.
She scored the only try in the second half to help United become the first women’s team to seal back-to-back titles since the division’s introduction in 2017.
Crew had no answers to the pace of United’s Lagona, Freda Waula and Tere Rema despite boasting experienced campaigners in Lila Malabag, Roswita Kapo, Bethsiba Awoi and Jerriga Senoa.
Meanwhile, Sub City Raiders beat Gabutu Dragons 14-11 and Two-Mile Pearls crushed Waidex 22-9 to win the Plate and Bowl respectively.
