FOUR schools in Porebada and Papa villages in Central have participated in coding and droning lessons through ExxonMobil PNG’s science ambassador programme, according to the company.
ExxonMobil said the education programme started in 2013 in partnership with PNG Flying Labs to encourage staff to share and impart knowledge, expertise and experiences.
PNG Flying Labs representative Sophia Soli said the programme was timely as the Coronavirus (Covid-19) themed activities allowed students to learn about hygiene, team work, critical thinking and problem solving.
“It was a great experience working and learning with students of Motu-Koitabu villages,” she said.
“The students displayed their artistic abilities, transforming simple circles into an animated Coronavirus and white blood cell computer game, plus simple squares into robots for a chatbot programme.
“The fun part was that these bots not only spoke English but also the Motu and Koitabu local languages.”
ExxonMobil PNG public and Government affairs planning and controls manager Diana Sigimet thanked the students for participating.
“We hope that through the programme, you are inspired and motivated to consider science, technology, engineering and math-focused careers,” she said.
