STUDENTS from about five schools in Lae attended a week-long netball programme that ended on Friday at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Indoor Stadium.
The Lae Netball Fun Day was a partnership programme delivered by Netball PNG and Water Aid with support from AusAid.
The programme ended with the presentation of playing gears to the Morobe Netball Association which would be distributed to the schools. About 60 students took part in the programme with some juniors from the Lae and Morobe Netball associations.
Morobe Netball Association president Shirley Lung said they hosted the programme to involve more boys and men to participate in the code.
“Though we all know that it’s only a women’s game, netball is a family-oriented sport and it brings out a lot of discipline. Many who participate in the code turn to excel through the code,” Lung said.
“It is about teaching the students health and hygiene and to mould and discipline them to become better individuals.”
Primary schools who took part in the programme were Butibam, Boali, St Patrick’s, Lae Adventist Primary, Lae Secondary and juniors competing under the Lae and Morobe Netball associations.
