Sparrows eyeing next clash

SPARROWS are eyeing back-to-back wins this weekend when they take on Snax Mermaids in the Port Moresby Netball Association premier division clash.
The Julien Leka-coached club put up a flashy show last weekend thumping Mystics and would aim to keep their winning momentum heading into the game five of round one clash tomorrow at the Rita Flynn Outdoor Courts.
Leka’s defenders have been on top of their game with Caela Welsh, Neritha Adula and Veteran Kilala Owen taking the lead.
The trio’s concrete defence around the circle and under the ring caught Mystics shooters off-guard on numerous occasions, pushing them away from goal scoring opportunities. They hope to display a similar performance against Mermaids.
“Our defence won us the game. Whether its defence in the circle or just general defence, we had a good day in that unit. Caela stole a lot of ball and turn overs,” Leka told The National early this week.
“I think the combination is working. The interchanges were also important. I tried to breed the younger ones so in every quarter I was putting the Under-21 players in. It’s just giving them the exposure from the beginning.”
The Credit Corporation-sponsored outfit will stick to their two-prone shooters Lesieli Taviri and Mary Leka to plot the scores. The young duo have been a shooting force for Sparrows in their attack.
