Sisters committed to trial over attack

TWO sisters, charged with grievous bodily harm for allegedly attacking another woman, have been committed to stand trial at the National Court in Waigani, Port Moresby.
Committal Court Magistrate Paul Puri Nii ruled on Thursday that there was sufficient evidence provided by police to commit Helen Andrias, 32, and Jane Andrias, 30, both from Paiyaia village in Porgera in Enga be committed to stand trial as there was sufficient evidence provided by police to sustain the charges of grievous bodily harm.
“You are both committed to stand trial at the National Court,” he ordered.
Police alleged that in March at around 11am, Jemifer Melvin (victim) was selling betel nut at the Vision City bustop in the National Capital District when Helen and Betty approached and attacked her.
Melvin allegedly tried to stop them when Helen pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed her on her chest and head.
