Selau ward members undergo awareness training on priority areas

ELEVEN ward members are undergoing a 20-day awareness training organised by Member for Selau Constituency, Paul Cheung, at Munlus.
The 20-day Independence Ready programme is to review the goal set by the Member’s Office covering priority areas of law and order, education, health, infrastructure and economy.
Cheung said since taking office on Sept 29, 2020, law and order was prioritised because of the situation in the constituency.
An operation, codenamed ‘Gutpla Sindaun’, was launched in all wards across Selau.
During that time, law and order awareness programmes were carried out throughout Selau, a total of 92 homebrew kits were removed from all wards and destroyed.
Selau veterans were empowered to assist Kokopau police to curb lawlessness.
He said Kokopau police and veterans were assisted with hire cars, fuel, refreshments and allowances.
Cheung said in December 2022, Selau Constituency was authorised by Bougainville Police Service (BPS) to fix a police vehicle which was stationed at Buka Police Station.
He continues to service police vehicle, and fund law and order at a quarterly budget of K10,000.
Cheung said the constituency office has spent more than K250,000 on law and order; education sector received K350,000; health sector K100,000; infrastructure K485,000, and is focusing on the economic sector.
