TWO robbers were shot dead in a shoot-out with police in New Ireland’s Namatanai on Thursday.
Police have also recovered an assortment of firearms and ammunition, commander Chief Insp Felix Nebanat told The National yesterday.
He said 10 armed robbers arrived from East New Britain’s Kokopo in a boat between 7.30am and 8am on Wednesday.
“They then headed to a logging camp where they raided the camp manager’s house,” Chief Insp Nebanat said.
“The robbers surprised the manager who tried to resist and was stabbed in his left arm with a gun pointed at him. The robbers ransacked the house and took K10,000, three laptops, four hand phones, food and demanded the vehicle key to make their getaway toward East Coast Namatanai.”
Chief Insp Nebanat said police in New Ireland and Kokopo were alerted about the armed robbers making their way to Namatanai.
On Thursday, the suspects were spotted leaving Namatanai and policemen in two boats intercepted and a shoot-out ensued.

  • This indicates to me that the government is not yet ready and prepared to come up with Slogans such as “Take Back PNG” and declare PNG a Christian Country…..Ridiculous

    • The political stuntman is hyping too much of that slogan with pride but the fabric of society has already been destroyed…

  • What’s going on now?????????????? Everywhere crime rate is increasing very fast than before.
Really, are we looking forward or taking back crime law-order issue in worse manner…..and leaving PNG going backwards..

  • Bro I think you truly have problem with the government. Do you think think the government are inciting these acts? These are armed robberies and the police are handling the matter. Only if the police hadn’t stepped in, then you should start blaming the government.
