REHABILITATION work on an 8km ring road in Gumine district, Chimbu, is nearing completion with vehicles using it for the first time in 15 years.
Manager of the Gaima-Genabona and Gamakuria access road rehabilitation project Nick Olmi said the road would be completed this month and would serve 30,000 people of Dom living on the outskirts of Gaima and Genabona.
Olmi said the road was an essential development link which would revive and boost local businesses, strengthen healthcare and education service delivery in the area and improve access.
He said road maintenance and drainage work had been completed in the first phase of the project.
He said the second phase would be the sealing of the road.
Olmi said local contractor Fortress Limited would do the sealing once funding was made available.
The funding would be received from Gumine’s district services improvement programme.
