IN the resources sector, project developers play a key role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of communities in which they operate, according to the Papua New Guinea Chamber of Resources and Energy.
Chamber president Anthony Smare said for the most part, projects go over and beyond the responsibility of ensuring that basic services were provided, through community investment programmes.
“These programmes are aimed at complementing the work done by government agencies in many rural parts of the country,” Smare said.
“And with the country on the verge of welcoming additional mineral and energy resource projects, these projects view community investment programmes as a key foundation of success, by providing basic services, which complement the efforts of government, especially in the areas of health, education, law and order partnerships, and enterprise development.”
He said a specific session had been dedicated to community investment programmes, community affairs and national content conference 2024, as part of PNG Resources Week.
“Session 4B: Community Investment Programmes, will feature Mineral Resources Development Company, Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited, Santos PNG Limited, Ok Tedi Mining Limited, Newmont Corporation and K92 Mining Inc, presenting on their work in community investment programmes within their respective project areas,” Smare said.
“This will see each organisation provide a snapshot of how community investment programmes are viewed, proposals are assessed and ultimately implemented.”
