THE casket of boxing advocate, the late Ben Micah, left Port Moresby for Kavieng, New Ireland, on Friday.
A funeral service was held on Thursday at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex where the public and government dignitaries paid their last respects to the former Kavieng MP.
Micah was a patron of Oceania Fight Promotions (OFP) at the time of his passing last month.
His partner Maryanne Millie, who is also the OFP managing director, told The National last week that Micah would be laid to rest at his Tasitel village on Mussau Island.
“Late Ben was a loving husband and father,” she said.
“He was disciplined and lived by strong principles. He was tough and always fought for what he believed in and what he wanted.
“We will miss him.
“I would like to thank the public and government officials who attended the funeral service.
“The programme was a success.
“Not only the funeral service, but the entire haus krai at our residence at 8-Mile was a success.
“The casket will spend another week in Kavieng before the burial.
“Once the casket arrives in the province, we will hand it over to his clan.” Millie said OFP officials and boxers also attended the funeral service.
She said Micah’s boxing legacy would continue through OFP’s programmes.
Meanwhile, Millie said all OFP events were on hold until after the late Micah was laid to rest.
