THE Port Moresby Nature Park will be giving out free trees to schools, churches and organisations in Port Moresby as part of their Tree for Life campaign, says an official.
The park’s multimedia and public relations officer Michael Evoa told The National yesterday during the world environment family fun day.
Evoa said the campaign would begin next week and it would be done to commemorate the world environment day.
“By distributing trees, we aim to promote reforestation, raise environmental awareness, and beautify our capital city,” he said.
“We’ve selected schools to receive trees as part of this special initiative.
“A lush, green environment benefits everyone, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact our world environment day campaign launch will have.”
Evoe commended the family fun day and said the important thing was to bring families together to engage them in activities such as face painting, colouring and bouncing castle for the kids.
“We want to encourage them that it is important to look after our environment in order to have a unique biodiversity system,” he said.
Evely Ao, a mother from Central, who brought her three girls to the park for the world environment family fun day said the activities held over the last two days had helped children understand the importance of trees and protecting the environment.
“Sunday is a family day, so we all get to come together here and it’s nice to see the kids having fun, colouring, playing the games in the bouncy castle and enjoying themselves for the day,” Ao said.
