MORE than 10,000 Papua New Guineans have passed through the Divine Word University in Madang following its establishment as an institution in 1996, according to president Professor Father Philip Gibbs.
Gibbs said those who have graduated were also contributing towards the nation’s development.
He was speaking during the university’s launch of the academic year recently.
The event coincided with the 43rd anniversary of the foundation of Divine Word Institute and 28 years’ anniversary as a university.
Gibbs said: “I have recognised that in many years of promoting knowledge and transformation, young people can become or they are capable of becoming. They continue to be key agents of social, economic and ethical influence in PNG.
“In doing so, what monolog society do we really want?
“We talk about a nation that is smart, fair, wise, healthy and safe, how do you imagine development.”
