Ongoing fuel rationing in Port Moresby, says airline

There is ongoing fuel rationing in Port Moresby which is impacting some of Air Niugini’s scheduled domestic flights, says acting Air Niugini chief executive officer Gary Seddon.
Seddon, while responding to public queries on flight disruptions, said safety was their outmost priority and Air Niugini would not be compromising that with the risk of flying based on the demand of the travelling passengers.
“The jet fuel supply chain is critical to Air Niugini’s operations,” he said.
“It is highly regulated and we always ensure there is appropriate quantities of fuel to service our flight plan requirements before we operate any flight.”
Seddon added that Air Niugini staff were doing their best under difficult circumstances to provide a competent, safe air transport service, and appealed for understanding from the travelling public.
“Our team is doing its best under trying times and we do not tolerate unruly, abusive behaviour from certain disgruntled members of the travelling public.
“While the issue of fuel supply is entirely outside the airline’s control, we are committed to resolving the issue for the long term and we believe we are close to a solution, thanks to the support of the Government.”
“Ours is a complex industry, but vital to the development and growth of PNG. Without a safe, successful, competent aviation industry, PNG would remain disconnected.”
