JUSTICE Minister and Attorney-General Pila Niningi has urged all the heads of divisions under the department to secure land for their officers and support staff.
“There are many housing schemes available and all the heads of divisions under the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) should secure available land for their officers,” he said.
He made the call when addressing State lawyers from the Office of Public Solicitor, Office of Public Prosecutor, Office of Solicitor-General and Office of State Solicitor in Port Moresby yesterday.
He said he had pushed for the increase in the housing, transport and security allowances for State lawyers which had taken effect already.
“I am glad that DJAG and some of its offices have secured land for their officers. You have my undivided support,” he said.
He said that there were some areas of improvement in their terms and conditions that the ministry was pushing to ensure that the welfare of State lawyers were well taken care of.
“Prime Minister James Marape has made mention many times on how proud he is of the State lawyers being able to support the Government in addressing legal issues and has reciprocated his appreciation by ensuring your terms and conditions are improved,” he said.
He added that through direct intervention from the National Executive Council, State lawyers were able to get additional allowances.
DJAG Secretary Dr Eric Kwa confirmed that State lawyers were now receiving accommodation, transport and security allowances.
