MAGANI centre Gabby Tawine grabbed a double in an impressive performance to jump over Morobe Tigers 10-8 on Sunday at Lae Rugby League Oval.
The ninth-placed Magani made their mark in the senior men’s competition defeating Tigers who are fourth on the ladder.
Magani were first to score through Tawine to lead 6-0.
It wasn’t long for Tigers to make a comeback with their first try scored by winger Josh Anga to trail 6-4.
Tawine continued his form with a second try in the first half to lead 10-4.
In the second half, Magani starved Tigers off possession until the last 10 minutes to leak in a try for a 10-8 lead.
Tigers team manager Donald Kari said his men performed well, however, were under pressure in the second half.
“We failed a lot in ball security, most especially ball handling. There were a lot of errors in the ball handling therefore we missed a lot of points,” Kari said.
“We did progress well so far in the proper season but it’s the three games that we have lost that led us to place seventh in the ladder.
“I know that the game next week will be tougher but we will be ready for it.”
Kari said they would be working hard in training to correct ball handling and defence before they face Lae Bombers BRR Storms.
