AN ambulance belonging to the Kutubu local level government in Southern Highlands was damaged by youths at Poroma last week while transporting medical supplies.
Kutubu LLG president John Pipi Kila said lawlessness had been an ongoing issue and, although the vehicle belonged to the people of Kutubu, it also services Nipa and Poroma.
He said this was the second time such an incident has occurred where an ambulance was commandeered while transporting a sick patient to Mendi town.
Kutubu leaders had requested for Santos security and police, and Kutubu and Poroma police personnel to quickly investigate the incident and bring the culprits to justice.
“We are calling for an immediate stop to such nonsense.”
The LLG president said Kutubu people had been experiencing continuous roadblocks and harassment of women and girls ever since the Poroma-Kutubu road was opened.
He urged Southern Highlands Governor William Powi to increase police presence along the highway.
