THE K160 million district budget for the newly established Wau-Waria in Morobe was officially launched by Prime Minister James Marape in Wau town on Friday.
MP Marsh Narawec said the launch signaled the district’s commitment that the provincial government would work to build the province.
He acknowledged the national government for its support and highlighted the priority areas that the plan would focus on including law and order, health, education, road and communication infrastructure.
“These areas are the first focused plans that the district development authority (DDA) will be looking at over the next five years,” Narawec said.
He said the five-year development plan was in line with the Government’s Medium-term Development Plan Four (MTDP4) and was in conjunction with the Morobe government.
He said the plan was based on input from the people of Wau-Waria who had made their concerns known during a consultative forum in June.
Narawec also announced that he was no longer with the Papua New Guinea Destiney Party and had decided to join Pangu Party.
“Before making the decision to join Pangu Party, I consulted individuals, groups and my people of my intentions to join the current ruling party,” he said.
Narawec said he had decided to change parties to ensure that the new district was supported.
“Being the new district in the province, we need to catch up with other districts in the province and the country as well,” he said.
Narawec said Wau-Waria would rely heavily on the national government to implement its five-year plan.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister James Marape welcomed Narawec’s decision to join his party and pledged his support to fulfilling Wau-Waria’s development agenda.
Marape also announced the boosting of funding for all district offices with a total of K100 million over the five-year term.
