ENGA Governor Sir Peter Ipatas wants to know why the Government and police were unable to address escalating law and order issues in the province over the years.
Sir Peter said apart from the recent natural disaster in Mulitaka, Enga, was struggling to address another threatening issue in a manmade disaster related to General Election 2022.
“Why are police not making any attempt to investigate and arrest warlords and leaders, including the politicians and businessmen, who were directly involved in the current elections related tribal fights in the province,” he said.
“The continuing tribal fights have resulted in destructions to properties worth millions of Kina and loss of many innocent lives over the past few years.”
Sir Peter said one was the Kompiam Ambum tribal fight which erupted due to election in the district.
“This fight has now reached Wabag, affecting couple of tribes in the district,” he said. “It is important for me as, governor to inform the public that this is another example of the Government not being able to contain law and order issue.
“I have been asking the previous and current Government to look at enhancing the law and order issues in the country.
“But the calls have fallen on deaf ears.”
He claimed the Government and police were not doing their part and ignored numerous calls to address and restore law and order in the province.
“To date, no investigations made in order to arrest those involved in destroying Government properties and the taking of many innocent lives,” he said.
“People are using high-powered guns and police must investigate to find out who supply them with this factory made weapons.
“Youths have seen it as a way of making money, hiring themselves out as gunmen, however, they get killed in the fighting.”
