MOROBE’s Huon Gulf will launch Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) projects aimed at enhancing the lives of its people.
The district will partner the National Planning Department’s WaSH team in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) to roll this out in the three local level government areas of Morobe, Salamaua, and Wampar.
This partnership will pave the way for initiatives to address the urgent need for improved water supply, sanitation facilities, and hygiene practices in the region, enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Huon Gulf MP Jason Peter expressed appreciation for the focus on his district.
“The District Development Authority (DDA) has already completed five WaSH projects within our capacity,” Community Development, Youth and Religion Minister Peter said.
“With the support of the National Planning Department and Unicef, we will be able to extend these critical services throughout Huon Gulf, reaching more communities and improving more lives.”
The WaSH projects will include the construction of new water supply systems, the installation of sanitation facilities, and the implementation of community-based hygiene programmes.
These efforts will be instrumental in reducing waterborne diseases, improving public health, and promoting sustainable development within the district.
The partnership underscores a shared commitment to delivering vital services to underserved communities.
Through these projects, the teams aim to create a lasting impact, fostering a healthier and more resilient future for the people of Huon Gulf.
