FRANCE is preparing to welcome athletes and visitors from around the globe, including Papua New Guinea, with less than a month to go before the 2024 Paris Olympic opening ceremony.
Celebrating Olympic Day in Port Moresby on Friday, French Ambassador to PNG His Excellency Guillaume Lemoine said this global sporting event would be a memorable one for Paris.
“In exactly five weeks starting now, the world will gather in Paris for another Olympics and Paralympic Games,” Lemoine said.

“That is what we call the Olympic spirit. As summer has already begun in Europe, France will host the Olympic Games for the first time in a century and the first Paralympic Games ever in history,” Lemoine said.
“In France, we admire the dedication and talent of these athletes who demonstrate remarkable perseverance and skills on the international stage.
“As we prepare now for Paris 2024, we look forward to seeing a family with these athletes, compete with the world’s best.”
He said France was committed to providing an inclusive and diverse environment that celebrates the unique culture and talent of every participant.
“Our goal is to ensure that every athlete, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to shine and inspire others,” he said.
“The Olympic Games are an occasion to reflect on the broader impact of sport on society.”
