TEN drums of fuel worth K8,577 were delivered to the Kumura Foundation by Puma Energy on Thursday.
The foundation is a small community-based organisation that services Bundi rural local level government, Usino-Bundi, Madang.
Foundation director Vincent Kumura said the fuel would be used to help clear the road to Upper Bundi from Gembogl, Chimbu, and also for an ambulance for Upper Bundi donated by the Sir Brian Bell Foundation on March 5.
Kumura said recent continuous heavy rainfall had caused several landslips and soil erosion along the Mondia Pass to Snow Pass and Yandera leg of the Simbu-Bundi road blocking off access to basic Government services, the movement of coffee beans to Chimbu and the ambulance service to Chimbu for patients.
“The Simbu-Bundi Road link is the lifeline for more than 10,000 people from the seven major tribes of remote Upper Bundi who get most of their health and other basic services from Chimbu,” he said.
“This includes two primary schools (St John Yandera Primary School and Snow Pass Primary School) and several elementary schools, trade store owners, coffee farmers and many local churches.
The Digicel tower and the feeder tower at Snow Pass and Yandera villages of Bundi are also serviced using this road link.”
