A CYBER expert says companies must invest in its information technology and cyber security in this fast- changing technological era.
Cybernetic Global Intelligence (CGI) chief executive officer Ravin Prasad said cyber education was important.
He said when giving an update on the latest cyber security trends like ransomware. CGI is a partner of Datec PNG, a nationally-owned information and communication technology company.
“Employees are the primary defence, they need to receive frequent training on how to recognise phishing attempts, suspicious emails, and social engineering methods.
“Instruct them to be cautious about unsolicited emails, even if they seem like they come from known sources.
“Just depending on firewalls or antivirus software is not sufficient. A layered security strategy with multi-factor authentication, data encryption, and frequent backups gives stronger protection.
“Giving workers permission only for the information and structures they really require can reduce the harm from an attack,” he said.
Prasad said preparing a clear incident response plan was important for handling a cyber attack’s aftermath.
“This plan needs to clearly describe steps for isolating the danger, controlling harm, and recovering data.”
