Counterfeit soap probe continuing

POLICE in Lae have reported that the criminal investigation division (CID) is handling the investigation into the counterfeit Waswas soap brand and it is being careful to ensure all vital information is collected.
Lae metropolitan commander Chief Supt Chris Kunyanban said the investigation would be completed when reports were handed to the courts.
Kunyanban said the investigations were nearing completion.
He said the public had been talking about it but there were technicalities involved that had to be fully completed.
“People may give all kinds of views but police are trying to ensure that they present a case which can be proven beyond reasonable doubt and that means vital information had to be presented in court,” he said.
“It may take a fair bit of time in order to present facts before the courts.”
According to Kunyanban, this case needed input from different agencies and individuals involved as police could not fight it on their own.
He said police would play their part but other agencies directly or indirectly involved had to come in as well.
“That is why I am appealing to other agencies to take part effectively and meaningfully so that the case, which is of public interest, can be presented in court without doubts,” he said.
Kunyanban further said that such practices should be taken seriously
He said if those involved were found to be guilty, they had to be deported.
