TRANSPARENCY International Papua New Guinea’s (TIPNG) “walk” in the nation’s capital on Sunday was a non-political event, an official says.
TIPNG chief executive officer Arianne Kassman in a statement said; “TIPNG is an organisation that was established in 1997 by our founding chair Sir Anthony Siaguru, our chairs including Mike Manning, over the years had resolutely protected the independence of the organisation and with a dedicated focus on strengthening our governance systems and whenever identified exposing acts of corruption.”
Kassman said the “walk” was one of TIPNG’s largest engagement events and that Sunday’s event was planned since last year. She said NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Silva Sika gave approval for the event in February.
“The funds raised from the “walk” against corruption are essential to safeguard TIPNG’s operational independence as it works in a non-partisan manner to empower people in Papua New Guinea to take action against corruption,” Kassman said.
The “walk’ attracted 173 teams comprising corporates, schools and families.
