A SENIOR constable with 30 years’ experience in the police force is to face trial in the National Court over the killing of his son.
Arnold Anonga Kisa, 48, was committed to trial on Friday by senior magistrate Pious Tapil who ruled that there was sufficient evidence against him.
“There is evidence of a police-issued firearm in your possession, witness statements gave clear indications of your behavior, and medical report shows gunshot wounds.
“The evidence shows that there is a motive, but intention is not an element in the matter.
“That is why you are charged with murder and not wilful murder.
“So I commit you to the National Court,” Magistrate Tapil said.
The court said there was an affidavit submitted by the arresting officer on Aug 29 which was deemed “unethical” as it favoured Kisa.
“Your lawyer’s statements stated that there were other gunshots during that time which might not be from Kisa’s firearm.
“All these are subjected for trial in the National Court, including the affidavit from the arresting officer,” Magistrate Tapil said.
Kisa, from Kainitiba’s Yakindangoai village in Gulf, a senior constable with 30 years service in the police force, has been serving at Menyamya Station in Morobe since 2002.
It is alleged that on New Year’s Eve last year, Kisa was with his two wives, children and others at his home preparing a mumu for police officers from Bulolo who were there.
Kisa was seen drinking.
He gave money to his wives but one of them argued with him over some debt he had not paid.
His son Dondon Kisa was inside their house when he heard the conversation regarding the debt from her beer sales.
Dondon was not happy with his father and threw some sand on the roof.
Kisa allegedly punched his son who fell to the ground.
The son got up and again argued with his father who went inside the house, got his rifle and fired five shots.
Kisa also allegedly assaulted his wife.
Later they heard children crying and saying that Dondon had been shot.
He died at the Menyamya Health Centre later.
