Cop: Crisis looming after fight

A HUMANITARIAN crisis is looming after the latest report on the fight which broke out in Wau, Morobe, two weeks ago revealed that some 90 homes were destroyed and not 47 as earlier stated, a senior police officer says.
Morobe police commander Supt Jacob Singura said the houses were either destroyed by fire or damaged during fighting between settlers from Mumeng and Finschhafen.
He said, however, the bigger problem was that the affected people were without food, shelter, clothing and other basic necessities.
Singura appealed to the public in Morobe as well as business houses to help donate cash or in kind to provide relief for the affected people most of whom were women and children.
“School children are affected, women and children who are innocent have been put in a very tough situation,” he said.
“Leaders must work with police and authorities to find a solution.”
Meanwhile, he said two more arrests were made yesterday, one from each side, bringing the total number of people arrested to four.
