THE University of Goroka campus in Eastern Highlands will be on lock down for two weeks after five confirmed Covid-19 cases were detected last weekend.
Acting vice-chancellor Donald Gumbis confirmed that the five cases were being isolated at the Goroka Provincial Hospital Covid-19 isolation centre.
“All staff and students will be tested by the provincial health authority and swabs will be given to the PNG Institute of Medical Research for testing,” he said.
Gumbis assured parents, guardians and sponsors of students that the university was taking every precautionary measure so that academic programs would not be affected.
There will be no classes and movements on campus was limited.
One of the five cases was a family member of a staff living on campus.
The four other were students.
He said wearing of masks, social distancing and washing of hands on campus was compulsory.
North Goroka Primary School students and businesses on campus were also affected because they use the same gate as university students.
