Bank card gives access to women

THE MiBank Hibiscus debit card provides easy access to rural women and women in urban settlements involved in informal activities to open savings accounts with a minimum deposit of K2.
MiBank Lae branch manager Georgina Ahwong said the Hibiscus card was initiated purposely to allow low-income earning women and unemployed women open accounts and take part in banking from small businesses and other activities taking into consideration the difficulties many Papua New Guineans had in opening bank accounts.
Ahwong told The National that the card provided additional advantages not available or provided by other bank cards such as a higher interest rate charged on savings accounts, no monthly account keeping fees and dedicated support.
She said the key advantages of having a Hibiscus card included financial independence, savings tips to reach individual goals, womens’ customer service support via WhatsApp on 7386 9661, interest rate 1.50 per cent per annum on a balance of over K1,000 and account holders received balance alerts on either Digicel or bmobile cellphones.
Ahwong said this when assisting women cassava farmers within Wampar, Huon Gulf and Wain-Erap in Nawaeb engaged in cultivating and supplying the SP Brewery cassava plant in Erap.
She said MiBank had a MiCash mobile phone bank account available for both male and female customers, apart from its women’s Hibiscus card. She said customers needed a Digicel mobile phone, a valid identification card and a minimum of K30 to register.
